Basic Audio Tune-Up

You’ll want to do some basic things before you get started with your home theater system to determine how to do some basic audio tune-up. Although having a large video monitor is a big factor, home theater sound is the difference between watching a movie and experiencing it. If you don’t buy into the importance of home theater sound, go to your local home theater retailer and let them demonstrate some of the audio equipment. Try out some of their home theater systems. After you’ve watched a scene on a big screen with big sound, ask the salesman to turn off the home theater sound and just use the sound from the television. You’ll quickly realize how much of the experience you’ve just lost. The sound makes you forget you are sitting comfortably at home and makes you feel like you’re part of the action.

When doing a basic audio tune-up, you’ll want to understand how to choose the surround sound format that’s right for you. Surround sound means being encompassed by sound. This can be accomplished with as few as two speakers and as many speakers as you can imagine. Typical home theater systems consist of between five and seven full-range speakers and a powered subwoofer. But the possibilities are bounded only by your space and budget.

When you’re doing a basic audio tune-up, you’ll need to know that surround sound physically surrounds the listening area and attempts to put you in the center of the action. With speakers firing towards you from all directions, surround sound can create an environment that can easily make you believe you are experiencing the movie first hand. When you’ve forgotten reality, surround sound has succeeded in its mission.

When you watch a movie and look over your shoulder to see what that sound is behind you, you have truly realized what an integral part of the movie-watching experience surround sound is. Surround sound has been a part of movie theaters since the 1950s in order to enhance movie watching. Films generally used several speakers across the front of the sound stage and at least one speaker in the rear of the theater. Filmmakers of course now try different methods to realistically create the illusion of three-dimensional sound to create a realistic experience that captivates the audience.

One of the main manufacturers of surround sound is Dolby Laboratories. When you’re doing a basic audio tune-up, you’ll know that surround sound has seen dramatic technological improvements. At first Dolby used a four-channel soundtrack that was encoded along with movies.
