What Is Quadraphonic Sound Anyway?
Quadraphonic sound is the grandfather of surround sound. It was broadcast in four channels. The channels were front right, front left, back right, and back left. Each channel braodcast to its own speaker, and that was where the surround sound effect came from.
Since quadraphonic sound first became popular in the 1970’s, it was most common on 8 tracks and with records. The only problem was that since quadraphonic sound had to be recorded in a number of channels; this meant that not as much could be stored on a single tape or a single reel.
On the upside, though, the sound was an amazing breakthrough. Before the onset of quadraphonic sound, there were not all that many ways to hear music aside from a single speaker or set of speakers. This is what made them so popular at the time.
What Does Quadraphonic Sound Require
Whether you are looking at a Japanese quadraphoic system of today or some DIY quadraphonic audio system, there are some pieces of equipment you will need. For one, you certainly would need to know ow to setup a quadraphnic decoder to read the information and send it to the speakers. Additionally, you would need speakers that are located in the right place. Finally, you might want to consider a quadraphonic synthesizer, though it is not a requirement. Once you have those, you are ready to go.
