Television Shopping

TV Shopping

When you’re television shopping, you should consider your needs and your budget. When you’re shopping for a television, you want to decide what size of television you want and what type of technology you need. Are you looking for a high-definition television, or would a standard television be okay?

There are also certain features that you should look for when you’re selecting a television. CRT, LCD, and rear projection televisions all benefit from added inputs and picture-in-picture displays. There are many types of audio and video connections to link your components. The best connection is component video. You’ll want to ensure that your television has several S-Video inputs for those devices that don’t feature component video. Don’t forget that your receiver can help with a shortage of inputs by performing the video switching for the television.

When you’re television shopping, you’ll want to consider picture-in-picture display. This is a feature that allows you to watch another program in a small window while continuing to watch another full-screen program. This allows you to channel surf during commercial breaks while keeping an eye on your original program. Some televisions have two-tuner picture-in-picture. This feature allows you to watch two different programs without using an external tuning device.

When television shopping, you should also keep an eye out for the right DVD player. DVD players are pretty essential now for any home theater system. The first decision is to decide whether to buy a single-disc player or a multiple-disc carousel unit. Single-disc players are more common and less expensive than a similarly-equipped multiple-disc unit. The second major decision is whether you want to spend the extra money for a DVD player that can output progressive scan. If you are television shopping for a unit that is able to display the 480p signal, than you should give serious consideration to buying a progressive scan player, as these units provide a smoother image, with fewer motion artifacts.

Regardless whether you decide to buy a progressive or interlaced scan player when you’re television shopping, make sure that your DVD player outputs both Dolby Digital and DTS bitstreams. There are a few players on the market that actually decode the digital surround sound bitstream. But if you are planning to buy a home theater receiver, the bitstream decoder won’t be necessary. Other nice features to have on your DVD player include zoom, slow motion and fast forward.
