TV

Televisions come in hundreds of shapes, prices, and sizes. When choosing among all the different televisions, the biggest decision is selecting the type of technology you want to use. Perhaps you want a rear-projection television or perhaps you’d rather stick with the more conventional CRT tube-based television that provides ease of use and years of trouble-free operation.

If you are wanting to look at the RPTV televisions, you should ask yourself if you like to tweak things to achieve maximum performance and whether watching movies is a bigger concern than watching television. Also, you’ll want to decide if you’re considering an HDTV set.

Television

It’s important to note that RPTV televisions don’t have the best-possible picture quality when you first take them out of their boxes. The alignment of the three-color guns is not optimal, and the set needs to run about 100 hours before the internal components settle in. To achieve an optimal picture on an RPTV, you have to take some time and effort to correct the initial problems. When most RPTV sets, after you use them about 100 hours, the set has settled enough that the convergence of the red, green, and blue light guns can be corrected and the correction will then be close to permanent. Over time, the convergence may drift a small amount, but unless you move the set, it should stay right where you want it to be.

When you’re looking at televisions, you should also determine whether you want to purchase a high-definition television monitor. Many DVDs are enhanced specifically for playback on wide-screen television sets or on HDTVs. These DVDs will take advantage of the high resolution, as the wide-screen format allows for 33 percent more vertical resolution, giving you a better picture. If you want to purchase a wide-screen television but still want to watch broadcast television, make sure you are comfortable watching a stretched picture. A wide-screen television is wider than standard programming. Most wide-screen televisions offer several types of stretch modes to fit your individual
preference.

After you determine the technology of your televisions, you’ll want to look at the features. There are any types of audio and video connections to link your components The best connection is component video, but you’ll also want to make sure that your televisions have several S-video for those devices that don’t feature component video. If you consider these things you’ll have no concerns with your televisions
